What does “patina” mean?

A patina is a green or brown film that develops on the surface of bronze or similar metals. Naturally-occurring patinas are produced by oxidation over period of time.

However, many people enjoy the look of patinas and would like to achieve the effect right away. As part of manufacturing process, we’re able to apply different patinas to many of our pieces before shipping.

Multi-colored patinas may also be used to achieve color variation in some pieces.

May I choose a different finish or patina for my item?

Some items are available in different finishes or patinas. Each listing will specify available options or variations.

Will my bronze statue turn green?

Because bronze contains a copper alloy, it naturally turns green as it ages. While some people enjoy the “antique” look of the patina, others may want to retain the original hue.

Waxing and polishing your bronze statue several times every year can prevent your item from turning green. Products such as Old English furniture polish can work well on bronze.

Instructions:

1. Apply wax to the bronze using a soft paint brush. You may need to apply a heavier coating to areas that appear oxidized.
2. Allow the wax to dry for 20 minutes.
3. Use a soft cloth or mechanical buffer to remove the wax.
4. Repeat the process for any areas that have heavy oxidization.

Does Signature Statuary handle fountain installation?

We do not personally, however, you should be able to find a local pool or landscaping company that can properly install your fountain. We will be glad to assist in locating a qualified technician upon request. Signature Statuary has worked with numerous landscapers nationwide and can easily direct you to a knowledgable professional.

What do I need to know before I buy a fountain?

Your fountain will need to be located in an area that has access to water and electricity.

You will need to ensure that you have appropriate space to accommodate the fountain. Keep in mind that many fountains must be placed in a shallow pool. The pool should be three- to four-feet wider than the width of the fountain, and should be 15-18’’ deep.

Speak with your fountain installer about how to create a center pedestal for the fountain to sit upon. The pedestal should conceal the water pump and allow the bottom of the fountain to be situated on the surface of the water. It’s important that the pump remains submerged at all times.

If you live in a cold climate, you should winterize your fountain to prevent damage. The fountain, pool, and any pipes should be emptied and allowed to dry out before freezing temperatures occur.
